Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge
http://www.combatwounded.org/
Vulneror non Vincor, Wounded – not Conquered, is the Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge (CWVC) motto. CWVC is dedicated to the rehabilitation and reintegration of Wounded Veterans while furthering the physiological, biomedical and psychological sciences associated with injuries. CWVC is a non-profit charitable organization led by other Combat Wounded veterans dedicated to providing long-term rehabilitation in both traditional and non-traditional settings.
Since our beginning in 2010, the Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge has focused on the rehabilitation of those experiencing physical and psychological injuries by providing extreme mountaineering and wilderness experiences, while conducting research dedicated to advancing the sciences associated with prosthetics, cardiovascular endurance, traumatic brain injuries and stress disorders.
The Challenge expeditions are physically and psychologically demanding alpine and wilderness efforts. These expeditions provide sufficiently arduous, reasonably achievable, and extremely motivational isolated wilderness experiences that simultaneously provide achievement and camaraderie for the Challenge team, and a unique setting for physiological and psychological research. Over many years, teams of Wounded veterans, servicemen and advanced researchers will take their expeditions to Alaska’s mountains and glaciers, remote rivers and valleys, Polar Regions, and to the “Seven Summits” of the world.
Those Combat Wounded and Injured veterans interested in extreme Challenges should meet the following qualifications:
· Be medically cleared by health care professionals (physiological and psychological)
· Demonstrate to a certified physical therapist and prosthetist that they can be properly outfitted with primary and alternate limbs adequate for the potential challenges of the expedition
· Possess the desire, drive, physical ability, and conditioning to participate in the expeditions
· Willing to participate in groundbreaking research related to prostheitcs, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorders, during extended periods of extreme exertion while exposed to high elevation and cold temperatures
Committed to participate in CWVC expeditions and follow-on visits to local Veterans Administration hospitals to meet with other Combat Wounded and Injured veterans and responsibly present oneself in social settings.

K9s for Warriors
http://www.k9sforwarriors.org/
Service dogs are medical equipment and are walking prescription to those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many returning Veterans suffer from the sights, sounds, and memories of the horrors of war. They carry this home with them, and depression and suicidal thoughts are common. According to the DOD 1 in 5 veterans suffer from PTSD, and 1 in 6 will attempt or have suicidal tendencies. Service dogs are a proven recovery tool for these invisible disorders.
Our program includes a three week stay in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Our Warriors come here, meet, & train with their new dog. K9s For Warriors focuses on the recovery of the warrior. We offer monthly classes and can accommodate up to 5 Warriors a month.
We believe that by including the warrior in the training and giving them the training tools necessary the warrior is also becoming part of their own recovery. We are seeing amazing results.

Our new criteria for eligibility will be (a) Documentation of treatment for PTSD by a military hospital or VA Facility (b) Documentation of appointment/counseling with OOA Mental Health Professional. The reason for this change is very simple to understand. The Department of Defense recently made a startling disclosure. More US Troops are taking their own lives than our enemy. Operation Open Arms must change. Our charity is now in the life saving business and we will make a difference.

Paws for Veterans
http://www.pawsforveterans.com/
We provide our nations combat injured Heroes that suffer with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and affiliated physical disabilities with task trained medical service dogs as well as supplies, therapeutic group sessions, and natural treatment alternatives. Our program delivers an all-around lifelong support system focusing on a more natural alternative to healing our Veterans bodies and minds while at the same saving the lives of shelter dogs that would otherwise be facing euthanasia. We strive to improve the lives of our nations Heroes as well as the lives of dogs sitting in shelters waiting for someone to give them another chance at life. Each dog is rescued, rehabilitated, trained, and re-homed with a Veteran that needs and loves them. This wonderful program creates a scenario where everyone wins because multiple lives are saved. The dogs are given a purpose in a loving forever home and the Veterans quality of life is drastically improved with the medical assistance and by the healing power of their new canine partner.
What sets Paws for Veterans apart is that every dog is individually task trained for their owner’s specific disability as required by the Department of Justice Americans with Disabilities Act Laws requires. Our dogs are not simply obedience trained pets, emotional support animals, or therapy animals. The dogs that we provide to Veterans are true “service dogs”. Each Paws for Veterans dog is trained in specific tasks that help their owner with their disability. Examples of such tasks are: waking from nightmares, reminding to take medications, physically interrupting panic attack to stop it from escalating and then physically slowing the owner’s heart rate to bring anxiety level down, and relieving muscle pain caused by elevated stress and anxiety. Each Veteran assists in the training of their own dog which is required in psychiatric service dog training as no one can exactly replicate someone else’s symptoms, reactions, and body chemicals. This method in turn creates a stronger bond between the Veteran and their service dog as well as giving the Veteran the exciting feeling of accomplishment as they were a major part of teaching their service dog. These 2 points combined is what makes our methods and program so successful at truly helping our Nations Heroes with the medical disabilities.
Pets for Vets
http://pets-for-vets.com/
At Pets for Vets, we believe our country owes military veterans a debt of gratitude. Our soldiers have been brave but many of them have returned with physical and emotional injuries that have made it difficult to transition back to civilian life. Some estimates state that as many as 20% of returning military veterans suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).The Pets for Vets program is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. The Pets… 3 to 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. These animals can make excellent companion animals but never have that chance. Our dedicated animal trainers will evaluate and rescue the shelter animals and provide additional training to ensure that they are able to assimilate into a home, which is quite different from a shelter environment. The Vets… Sadly, there are alarming statistics of suicide, family abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder facing veterans returning to civilian life after military duty. This can cause a downward spiral of apathy, unemployment, broken relationships, addiction and depression. It is our belief that companion animals can be the life saving therapy or friend that many returning service men and women need.

This is an intensive program open to men and women veterans from all U.S. military branches. Approximately 20-30 veterans from the VA program attend monthly indoor kart driving events run by Racing4Vets at Full Throttle Indoor Karting in Springdale, OH. Each program provides assessment and treatment of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury using a curriculum of Cognitive Processing Therapy, group and individual sessions and physical activities. Clinical studies conducted by the Veterans Administration and National Institute of Health indicate significant improvement in cognitive abilities and reduction of symptoms from participation in the PTSD/TBI program. We help veterans any way we can.

Events
There are so many heroes in this great nation, so many families we can encourage. My vision as a mom, is to bring wounded warriors and their spouse or caregiver to Panama City Beach for an extended weekend of rest and relaxation. This retreat will be a time that can give them hope to carry on … a feeling that their sacrifice was not in vain… a knowing that we as a nation are truly grateful for their service and sacrifice. I call it the “Warrior Beach Retreat”.
We have two Retreats each year (April and September).

Wounded Warrior In Action
http://www.wwiaf.org/
The WWIA is dedicated to serving our nation's combat wounded, Purple Heart recipients, by providing world-class outdoor sporting activities. The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation Inc. (WWIA) serves our Nation’s combat wounded Purple Heart recipients by providing world-class outdoor sporting activities as a means to recognize and honor their sacrifice, encourage independence and connections with communities, and promote healing and wellness through camaraderie and a shared passion for the outdoors. Hunting and fishing provide excellent opportunities to assist our wounded veterans in recovering – mentally, physically, and spiritually from their war experiences.
Wounded Warrior Project
http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
The Combat Stress Recovery Program (CSRP) addresses the mental health and cognitive needs of warriors returning from war. CSRP provides services at key stages during a warrior's readjustment process.
While post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and combat/operational stress are common after war-time experiences, Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) approaches these issues from the warrior's perspective. We understand the stigma attached to mental health, access to care, and interpersonal relationship challenges.
Our approach to meeting mental health needs of warriors is two-fold:
- We challenge warriors to think about goal-setting and understanding their "new normal." Many warriors begin their journey with Project Odyssey™, an outdoor, rehabilitative retreat that promotes peer connection, challenging outdoor experiences, and healing with other combat veterans.
- We assist warriors in navigating mental health resources that help process their combat experience.
Deployments to war-zones change service members and their families. Some of the changes are positive. For example, personal and professional growth due to the ability to face intense challenges and adversities competently. Combat and operational experiences can also be traumatic and produce lasting emotional wounds. Examples of traumatic deployment experiences are threat to life, the loss of others, and seeing the wounded and the dying.
Exposure to traumatic combat and operational experiences affects service members and veterans spiritually, psychologically, biologically, and socially. A veteran with a good job, good social supports, and a healthy leisure routine may have an easier readjustment to civilian life. If your scars are getting in the way of your relationships, work, or other important activities, or if things are getting worse rather than better, it is important that you take steps to get the help you need. Check out the links below - do any of the points listed apply to your situation?
Physical Health & Wellness (PH&W) programs are designed to reduce stress, combat depression, and promote an overall healthy and active lifestyle by encouraging participation in fun, educational activities. Physical Health & Wellness has something to offer warriors in every stage of recovery.
Inclusive Sports - It’s about what you can do.
- Fitness - Enhance your physical fitness, no matter where you are on your
journey. - Nutrition - Fuel your body during recovery.
- Wellness - Unite body and mind for overall wellness.
INCLUSIVE SPORTS
It’s about what you can do.
Inclusive sports allow warriors living with cognitive, emotional, and/or physical impairments to engage in local community-based activities to help overcome both visible and invisible injuries. Participation in inclusive sports is a great tool for rehabbing and learning to thrive. Through sports and recreation, warriors can spark deep-rooted leadership skills and challenge buddies in some friendly competition.
