Habitat for Humanity
http://www.habitat.org/
Habitat for Humanity International is expanding its capacity to serve veterans and active military as homeowner partners and volunteers. In cooperation with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Habitat is developing a Veterans Initiative. CNCS will strengthen and expand its local efforts and develop resources that support local Habitat affiliates’ veterans programs. The goal is to better serve veterans and active military.
From coast to coast, military veterans and active military personnel are pitching in as Habitat volunteers, sometimes building for fellow vets or active military, sometimes for civilians. This partnership ― between the country’s biggest builder of simple, decent, affordable housing and those who have served or are serving their country ― is growing.
Hero Box
http://www.herobox.org/
HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports deployed, injured, aging and homeless veterans. Our mission is to provide the physical items and moral support our heroes need while away from home. HeroBox evolved from a family's simple effort of supporting their hero. HeroBox founder Ryan Housley learned during his brother's deployment that many service members were not receiving any support from home. He also noticed that all deployed service members have specific needs depending on their gender, location and a variety of other factors. Most care packages are generic and don't provide the items our heroes need. Ryan worked with brother to develop a web platform that would connect the American people with their heroes instantly online. Thus giving service members the ability to request specific items and providing Americans with a way to directly support the troops. HeroBox.org was launched in May 2008 to support this vision. HeroBox now has volunteers in all 50 states who help us support tens of thousands of deployed service members each year. In 2013, HeroBox expanded its programs to include injured, aging and homeless veterans.

Pets for Vets
http://pets-for-vets.com/
At Pets for Vets, we believe our country owes military veterans a debt of gratitude. Our soldiers have been brave but many of them have returned with physical and emotional injuries that have made it difficult to transition back to civilian life. Some estimates state that as many as 20% of returning military veterans suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Pets for Vets program is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. The Pets… 3 to 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. These animals can make excellent companion animals but never have that chance. Our dedicated animal trainers will evaluate and rescue the shelter animals and provide additional training to ensure that they are able to assimilate into a home, which is quite different from a shelter environment. The Vets… Sadly, there are alarming statistics of suicide, family abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder facing veterans returning to civilian life after military duty. This can cause a downward spiral of apathy, unemployment, broken relationships, addiction and depression. It is our belief that companion animals can be the life saving therapy or friend that many returning service men and women need.
Project Lifting Spirits

Our Mission is to Provide Ongoing Support, and Gifts of Encouragement to Our Brave Wounded Service Members both HOME and ABROAD.
We regularly visit our wounded troops and deliver cards, gifts, and especially words of encouragement. The following are some special missions we will be expanding on this coming year:
Operation Note Card
There is nothing like a handwritten note from someone's heart to let a soldier, sailor, marine or airman know that he or she is supported and their service is appreciated. Don't underestimate the value of your greeting!
Soldier's Santas
Often, when a troop is wounded, the one thing they really miss being able to do is provide a gift for their own child. We will be trying to see to it that every wounded service member in our area has a gift on hand to give his/her child when they come to visit "Daddy" or "Mommy" at the hospital. We will offer this year round, so the service member has a gift for that all-important first visit with their child after returning home, for the child's birthday's and of course at Christmas.
